Bobcat continues the legend of the Compact Loader with the introduction of the new S450

Bobcat Equipment South Africa launched the new S450 M-Series Compact Loader to the local market on 16th October 2014 which replaces the legendary S130 K-Series.

“It is a challenge to improve on something that delivers consistent quality across-the-board and that has enjoyed recognition as the most important model in the local market for a number of years,” says Bobcat Equipment Managing Director, Les Lothian. “But with the introduction of the S450, Bobcat once again sets the compact equipment benchmark another notch higher by making one of its best even better.”

“In our relentless pursuit to offer only the best in compact equipment to our customers so that they can move their business forward, Bobcat is always looking to identify areas that can be even further improved. The result is the S450 which encompasses the best of the S130 made even better.”

Described as ‘The Evolution of the Legendary Bobcat Loader’, the S450 Compact Loader has been improved in the areas of performance, robustness, ergonomics and maintenance. For the first time in this class, large machine comfort and technology are built into a compact: for greater operator space, comfort and control. For customers it means low cost of machine ownership and rapid return on investment because jobs are completed fast, effectively and efficiently.     2/Bobcat launches S450

The Kubota diesel power pack delivers 36.4kW and is cooled by a unique system complete with a Smart-FAN. A stronger lift arm which allows for greater load handling of 608kg (rated operating capacity and static tipping load of 1215kg). A redesigned hydraulic and transmission systems boosts productivity while operating time is extended thanks to the enlarged fuel tank. With 30mm more ground clearance, the S450 offers better manoeuvrability.

The loader is extremely robust and features a rugged 6mm steel frame, high strength oval chains and hardened pins. New frame and lift arms ensure greater durability in heavy-duty applications.

In terms of ergonomics the new loader maintains the cab-forward design of the M-Series with 30% more overall visibility including improved forward as well as side visibility due to the lowered boom pivot point.

The larger, sealed pressurised cab, a first on a machine of this size, minimises dust and dirt ingress for enhanced operator comfort and reduces heating and cooling load on the system. The S450 boasts the largest cab door in this machine size. Safe night operation is facilitated through an augmented forward-light output (+50% total wattage) and improved light dispersion.

A number of features built into the S450 as standard ensure easy serviceability and low maintenance, fundamental to keeping production levels high. The loader’s unique no-maintenance axle bearings are automatically lubricated with chaincase oil and never require greasing. The axle bearing seal is fully protected by wheel hub. The unit is also fitted with a maintenance-free chaincase, and automatic drive belt tensioner and exclusive fixed-axle tubes that never require adjustment.

The S450 M-series machines are compatible with Bobcat’s massive array of over 90 different attachments, ensuring optimum versatility to meet materials handling applications in the construction, general industry, mining, agriculture and landscaping sectors.
